The Queen of Chunky Knits Chooses Her 5 Favourites

Author: Sarah James

Date: 05 May 2022

Dear Craft Festival Friend,

We are so lucky to be surrounded by Craft Champions. Makers and Craft Cheerleaders who bring so much to the making community. One of those Champs, is chunky knitter Lauren Aston.

Lauren is based in Exeter and has built a phenomenal knitting business. I've just recorded a podcast with her so I'll let you know when that is ready. We chatted about how Craft Festival inspired her to start her business. Heartwarming stuff!

I've asked Lauren to choose her 5 Favourites, read on to find out more.

If you live near Bovey Tracey, you can pick up your tickets in person from Make South West in Bovey Tracey. Grab yours Now!

Clover Robin

I absolutely love Clover Robin’s use of colour and her compositions. Her work is always so full of energy it feels like such a feast for the eyes.

Laura Lane Ceramics

Laura is one of my favourite ceramicist, I adore her work and always love seeing her latest pieces. She does practical with a stylish and fun twist like no one else. If I can possibly fit another of her mugs in my cupboard I absolutely will.

Tom Frost

I couldn’t help but be drawn to the bold colours and classic designs by Tom Frost. I’m looking forward to seeing Tom demonstrating his process in June but know I’m going to find it hard to narrow down my favourite piece!

Emma Rosa

I’ve not seen Emma’s work before but it’s so stunning it really stood out to me and i’m excited to see it in person and check out the detail up close in June.

Anna Cook Paper Art

Anna’s amazing paper art is new to me and it’s blown me away. I’m awestruck by the exquisite details and layers and again can’t wait to see it in person.

It's a Family Affair

When we set up Craft Festival in 2004, I had a very young family. Ella is now 21 and Lewi is 18 and they were brought up with the opportunity to make and play at Craft Festival.

It's a core part of our activties and we warmly welcome young people and families to Craft Festival. Head to the Craft Lab for drop in workshops on Saturday and Sunday and meet Aardman's Jim Parkyn plus lots of fun activities to enjoy, for FREE.

Extra entertainment is provided by Pocket Watch Theatre Compnay and storytelling by Isabella Necessity and Clive Pigg.

The Craft Festival Needs You!

We need an army of happy volunteers to help us run Craft Festival Bovey Tracey. If you enjoy working with people and fancy being part of one of the friendliest events EVER, we'd love to hear from you.
