My business has been running since 2008. I make little pewter people (4-7cm tall) running about on driftwood, inspired by the silhouettes of dogs, people and gulls I see on evening walks on the West Wales coast. I collect the driftwood on these walks. I hand-cast the pewter in moulds I have made from plywood as pewter melts at a low enough temperature to be cast in wood. I also tell a lot of lies about birds. I take old books destined for landfill and re-purpose them, filling them with scenes made from paper and paper clay I have made myself, and a lie about birds. Inspired by old, inaccurate bird field guides, I also make fake ‘pages’ that might have been torn from these books, using photographs of paper birds I have made from old RSPB magazines, and telling even more lies.
