Melissa’s process for creating and designing jewellery begins with an idea. That idea comes from either the shape, colour or markings on stones she is working with. Placing them in different configurations can create the outline for a piece and when she is happy with the result she will put it together. It is then Melissa might decide what else to add – maybe a hammered metal shape, or a series of shapes, or possibly an antique brooch or artefact. There is always the delightful surprise when serendipity occurs.
I create handmade statement one-off pieces of jewellery using semi-precious stones. Each piece is individually crafted, with attention paid to the shape, colour and characteristics of the stones. The finished piece is often complimented by a pieces of hammered recycled silver, gold or copper.
Through this practice I - perhaps unconciously - aim to celebrate the imperfections and individuality inherent in natural stones. My passion has always been finding stones with unusual markings and make them into one-of-a-kind statement pieces commissioned or discovered by you when browsing my website.
As a sole trader working independantly I manage every aspect of my jewellery practice from design to delivery and keeping the website up to date (a piece of the process I struggle with as each piece has to be photographed and described) so I would ask you to bear with me and if there is anything that you would particularly like to see or commission do message me as I am always delighted to hear from you!
