My first creative passion was photography, I now approach ceramics in the same way that I construct photographs, watching for serendipitous moments when imagery, ideas and form come together. Fascinated by the myriad possibilities of applying print to ceramics I design and produce underglaze and on-glaze screen printed transfers, an unusual technique to find in studio ceramics, I apply this printed imagery to inventive earthenware forms that exploit the creative potential of a slip casting. Recent work investigates pouring, marbling and splattering coloured slips into moulds, combining this approach with decals means that all pieces are unique. Having resided in Bristol for many years my work is influenced by the vibrancy, contrasts and dynamism of the city and its culture of progressive creative radicalism.
