I am a ceramic artist based in Leadhills in the South of Scotland. Graduating with a BA (Hons) in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art in 2021, I have since worked and exhibited internationally.
My practice is research based, I use clay to create site-specific objects and installations that explore the history of a place.
I am fascinated by the history of objects and I am interested in contemporary art and craft, and how those two can meet. Making both pots, inspired by medieval slipware and prehistoric pit fired ware, as well as abstract sculptures that blend topographical form with anthropological research.
When exploring a place, I will begin with sourcing local clay, this combines with learning about the material culture and social history of the area. The clay provides the first path into the landscape and what it holds. Often leading to investigating local archaeology, to understand how communities have formed from and around the landscape.
I aim to explore connections between people and place, asking questions of inheritance, foundations and our roles in our beginnings and our
ends.
