I am a self-taught potter and have been making wood fired pottery from my home studio in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

My first fascination with handmade pottery was in Prague, where I grew up. I used to meet with friends in tea rooms where we could chat for hours while drinking many brews of loose leaf teas from beautiful handmade teaware.

When I settled down into a peaceful family life in West Wales, I re-discovered my dormant childhood passion for clay. While pregnant with my second child, I started hand-building Japanese style tea bowls from the kitchen table. I also joined a local evening pottery class. While working with clay I felt deeply grounded and connected with nature. As my enthusiasm to learn the new skill grew I asked my two potter friends for some in studio experience and guidance. Soon, I was ready to set up my own studio and build a wood fired kiln.

In my rural settings within the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, I draw my inspiration from the surrounding natural world. I love working with foraged materials which I incorporate into my work. They bring naturalness, sometimes expressing themselves in an unexpected way! In combination with the wood firing the making process becomes a primal elemental experience which I enjoy so much!

I see pottery making as an ongoing learning process requiring discipline, commitment and an open mind or ‘the beginner’s mind’ to further developing, growing and refining one’s skills.
