I have been practicing a traditional Japanese lost wax technique called Mitsuro Hikime for one of a kind jewellery. I use sterling silver and 24k gold. I incorporate using Japanese silk braids Kumihimo as a chain for my necklace. I recently started to make the silver kumihimo braids by myself.
I am always intrigued by the older slower processes, which I can only do by hand. I love the texture in my pieces. I hammer and witness a flat sheet of metal becomes a 3 dimensional object. This is a slow method of forming a metal, but it is like a writing a novel, telling a story only with a hammer. Every hammer strike inputs the life and emotions.
I usually draw first with my Japanese ink and a brush. It makes sense when I see the lines and the space these lines create. I also use a technique called Mitsuro hikime, the ancient Japanese lost wax technique using beeswax. I love the organic nature of this wax.
