Once fired functional earthenware with white slip, raw glazed and decorated with coloured glazes. Images include fruit, vegetables, birds, hens and deer, oh and the odd pig. Work is thrown on a momentum wheel and made for the cooking and serving of food such as plates, bowls, pie dishes, salad bowls, mugs, jugs and some hand built trays.
I have been making pottery since 1979 selling to shops, galleries and at Craft Fairs. Fellow of the CPA since 1986. Exhibiting member of Design Nation.
All the pottery I make is for use in the kitchen and for serving food to the table. The majority of the work is thrown, such as cereal bowls and pasta dishes, which also make good soup bowls. I make larger bowls for serving fruit and veg and two sizes of salad bowls. I also make pie dishes decorated with fruit, apples. pears and berries or with vegetables such as carrots, beetroot and pumpkins. We also use animal images such as hens, rabbits, hares, deer and pigs on plates, bowls, trays and now mugs.
Some of my work is slab built making useful items for the kitchen such as butter slabs, spoonrests and serving trays. Do take a look at my web site to see what is available at the moment. www.josiewalter.co.uk
One of my most poular items is the lunch plate. These are approx. 24cm wide but have a deep rim and so they are great for pasta dishes, stews, salads or maybe just a sandwich. I also make dinner plates, but because they take up a lot of room in the kiln these are only made to order. I am always happy to take on commissions where possible, so please do ask by emailing me at josie@josiewalter.co.uk if you can't see what you want on the web site.
