I'm a ceramic artist based at Fireworks Clay Studios, Cardiff. Following a BA in 3D Design (Ceramics) at Cardiff School of Art and Design in the mid 1980’s, I recently returned to the School of Art to study MA Ceramics & Maker under one of the UK’s foremost ceramic artists Claire Curneen, graduating with a distinction in 2024. Using an intuitive approach to coiling, I sculpt abstract expressive forms primarily inspired by the vessel that naturally evolve from a meditative correspondence in the space between hands and clay. Hand marks are central to the making process, evidence of the truly hand built, working sympathetically with clay's natural plastic material properties, and reflecting a human place in nature. The use of slips, pigments and glazes highlight fingerprints varying the surface of the hand mark texture. The work aims to serve as a reminder of the importance of our natural, analogue, fully embodied sensory connection to the world, in providing points of reflection, evoking a sense of touch. I recently exhibited at the Y Lle Celf, National Eisteddfod visual art exhibition at Wrexham, I’m an associate member of the Crafts Potters Association and had work selected for the Crafts Council Directory.
